Expansion of furnace air preheating in TA2023: lifting of the helix tower

Like any private household, the HOLBORN Europa refinery has a keen interest in minimising energy losses in its process plants. One effective way of doing this is to preheat the combustion air for process furnaces. In the current project, ‘Expansion of furnace air preheating’, the Powerformer furnaces are being optimised in terms of energy efficiency. This requires various new heat exchangers: a new process heat exchanger to recover energy for air preheating from the existing process, and air preheaters to transfer the recovered energy to the combustion air.

HOLBORN uses a Helix heat exchanger as its process heat exchanger, which was transported to its destination in Turnaround2023 with a spectacular lift. The operation was accompanied by a camera crew and numerous HOLBORN employees at the plant, who did not want to miss one of the most beautiful lifts of the entire TA.
